UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson was shot and killed in Midtown Manhattan on December 4, 2024. Luigi Mangione was arrested five days later in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Mangione has pleaded not guilty. New York is prosecuting murder and weapons charges. The federal case charges stalking and firearm offenses tied to the same alleged conduct, while the Pennsylvania case arises from the arrest and the items authorities said they recovered there.
