Three prosecutions

Luigi Mangione is a defendant in three prosecutions connected to the December 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson and Mangione's arrest five days later. The federal and New York cases concern Thompson's killing. The Pennsylvania case concerns the arrest.

Mangione pleaded guilty to both remaining federal counts on August 14, 2026. Sentencing is scheduled for December 18 at 11:00 a.m.; defense and government sentencing submissions are due December 4 and 11.

Nine counts remain after the September 16, 2025 decision. The defense has moved to dismiss counts three through ten; the court has not ruled, and count eleven is outside the request. The September trial was postponed, briefing runs through October 30, and the next court date is December 10.
